: Batch file for clearing out your MapSource and BaseCamp caches
: Moun10Bike March 24, 2011, 09:42:16 AM
Attached is a simple batch file designed to clear out the MapSource and BaseCamp caches.  To use it, do the following:

  • Save the attached text file to your local computer
  • Change the "txt" extension to "bat"
  • Double-click the file to run it

This is the method I use to regularly clear out my map caches.  This is necessary since Garmin now caches map tiles to improve performance of MapSource and BaseCamp.  That's fine if you are always using the same maps, but if you are installing map updates frequently, you don't want the old map images sticking around.  This batch file deletes them.

UPDATE: Updated file to handle Windows 8.0 and 8.1 and moved to download site of web site.

FYI, I've posted a new version of the batch file that detects your OS and the location of your map tiles so that no editing of the file is necessary.  Simply change the extension of the file from .txt to .bat and run.

Please let me know if you run in to any issues.  Since I don't have anything but Windows 7 currently available to me, I couldn't test it on other flavors of Windows.

A new version has been posted that properly clears the BaseCamp cache on Win XP machines.

I know there hasn't been much feedback on this, but it works great.

Thanks Jon!
