1  GPS Mapsets / General Discussion / Re: Garmin Birds Eye and GeoCache on: August 08, 2014, 12:36:32 pm
Sorry for the delay in responding - I've been off on vacation.

BirdsEye and Northwest Topos work well together, with the line and point data from Northwest Topos displaying on top of the imagery (while area data is layered beneath as you would want, otherwise parks and lakes, etc. would cover up the imagery). I've attached a screenshot from Basecamp so you can get an idea of what it looks like.

Geocaches loaded also appear on top of the imagery.
2  GPS Tech and Software / General Discussion / Re: App for a smartphone? on: July 09, 2014, 12:00:39 pm
I'd love to get the data onto smartphone, but it would require more development skill than I currently have.

GPSFileDepot.com has an excellent tutorials section to help with these sorts of things. This one should answer the questions that you have. Feel free to post here if you run into any issues or have any additional questions.
4  GPS Mapsets / Northwest Trails / Re: Adding the PNT to NW Trails on: February 28, 2014, 12:43:32 pm
I'm rather informal when it comes to releases. Smiley I usually do so whenever I collect enough changes to make a new release worthwhile. I've felt like things are about at that spot in the last week or so, but I can hold off for a couple of weeks (it will take some time to integrate the lengthy PNT to the data, anyway).

There's no current solution for this. I'd love to get the data onto smartphones, though.
14  GPS Mapsets / Northwest Trails / Re: Providing new routes for old trails on: February 20, 2013, 05:10:42 pm
The trails in the database come from a variety of sources. In the case of Dog Mountain, they were shapefiles obtained from the Forest Service back at the start of the project 5 years ago. Those sources are notoriously inaccurate - usually tracings made from much larger scale maps. Even if a trail has been recorded by GPS, though, things can change or the GPS could have been off, so I appreciate new recordings that provide better - or even just additional - data.

BaseCamp does allow editing. Just make sure that the Drawing Tools toolbar is enabled (View > Toolbars > Drawing Tools). Once enabled,it gives you the ability to insert, move and erase trackpoints and split the line. You can also double-click on a track to call up the properties, which lets you see a list of the points and edit them as needed.
15  GPS Mapsets / Northwest Trails / Happy 5th Birthday, Northwest Trails! on: February 14, 2013, 05:41:03 pm
It was 5 years ago today (February 14, 2008) that the first version of Northwest Trails was released! Wow, has it grown since then! Thanks to everyone for helping to keep it going!
