1  GPS Mapsets / Northwest Trails / Re: Should I overwrite or rename? on: June 25, 2012, 09:11:00 am
Thanks.  I am really impressed with the completeness of this mapset.  We were down in Oregon last week.  I was hiking on the Humbug trail.  It is a dinky little trail, so I was surprised to find it on NW Trails.  The trail number is wrong, but that is a minor point.  We are going to Baker Lake next month, and I plan to use NW Trails to guide us across the lake to the Noisy Creek campground on the east side of the lake.
2  GPS Mapsets / Northwest Trails / Should I overwrite or rename? on: June 20, 2012, 08:03:35 pm
There are some trails on version 1.73 that I would like to have.  However, I uploaded some waypoints to my Oregon 450, using the 1.72.  Do these waypoints still work with my new mapset?  Will I have to upload them again?  Should I rename 1.73 so that I have both 1.72 and 1.73 on my GPS, as suggested in the FAQ?  How do users normally manage this?  Thanks.

I just want to say that I got NW Trails installed with help from a Mac user here.  The instruction he gave works easily.  All you need is MapManager and MapInstall, and then follow the instructions.  I am not saying there aren't other ways to do it, but this one works.  Peace.

Problem solved!  Thank you very, very much.  I am hiking on Mt. Baker for the first time this summer, and NW Trials is really going to help!

I don't know.  Starting over...

1. I went here...

2. I downloaded "current version" 1.72 for Macintosh (31.4mb)

3. When I downloaded it to desktop and double click on it, MapManager asks if I want to "install" it.  I say "yes."

4. Now I have a file Norhwest Trails.gmpai.  It is 40.4 mb.

Does this file have the "background layer"?  If so, how do I get rid of it?  If not, what do I do next with the file?

I have a Mac computer and an Oregon 450.   If anybody has NW Trials with that combination of computer+GPS, please tell me how you got it working.  Here is what I did so far:

1. Downloaded NW Trails.
2. Installed with MapManager.
3. Sent it to Oregon GPS blank SD card.  MapInstall and BaseCamp both worked for this.
4. Changed the name on the Garmin in the Garmin folder to NWtrails.img  That doesn't help, either.
5. Tried disabling various other maps to help make NW Trails appear.  Nothing worked.

NW Trails looks great on my computer with BaseCamp, but I can't get trails to appear on my maps no matter how much I zoom the maps.  I read somewhere that I should send them in combination with some other map.  Is that necessary?  How do you do it?
