1  GPS Tech and Software / General Discussion / App for a smartphone? on: July 03, 2014, 09:55:12 pm
Anyone thought of developing an app for your maps? Is it possible?
I guess one thing is how good are the gps's on smartphones? Pretty good now and the topo map is only 1.3 gigs. What would it take to display this on a smartphone?

Oops, I should have been more specific. My bad. I am still more than willing to be a mirror site for your downloads if you need it. Under your control.

Just above the home, help and search buttons. If you click on any of them, you get a page not found because they all have an extra http:// in them.

Besides, we are here to better the maps, right?  I love finding gaps in the trails.

Hey Jester, was fun to see you at the Cedar River Event. Did we lay gravel or what? Cheesy

I have a friend in Wenatchee that has a cheap garmin that a friend gave to him It's good enough for mapping and he is getting into it. The prob is he runs linux and is having probs with finding sw. I told him I would upload mapsource to a place on my server for him to dl and run on a windoze machine(his mother, of all people, oh, she caches too). I have been doing some research on linux and garmin and I think there's a good workaround using wine but I don't run linux anymore because of problem's using all my toys.
Anyways, I'll see what I can do with him saving his tracks.

Or the fact the GS forum sends me an email every time someone comments on the thread. I just dled and installed the newest version and since it is raining buckets out there, I'll update my Garmins.

Anytime the pi talks about people getting lost or some search and rescue thing and we are allowed to comment, I always talk about your trailmaps and post a link to this site. I have gotten positive comments.

My Astro 220 had no trouble with 1.55. I use win 7 and the latest mapsource. I haven't uploaded 1.56 but it's in mapsource now.
14  Static Maps / General Discussion / Re: Making a static map on: March 17, 2010, 08:16:50 pm
Yeah, it seems the updates are quite frequent. It's not that there are new trails made all the time but the complete documentation of trails that have been there forever. Eventually, it will slow down as you near completion.

How tough is it for you to make a usable static map? I see you have made quite a few. What is involved in doing it?
