Making a static map

How tough is it for you to make a usable static map? I see you have made quite a few. What is involved in doing it?

It's fairly easy, especially with a template.  The data is already compiled for use in GPS maps (mostly the Northwest Topos data).  The only thing I add that is not present in GPS maps is hill shading.

The most time-consuming part is getting the static map template designed and then keeping all of the maps up-to-date and in sync when you want to make changes to the template (which is relatively frequent for me, since the map data collection and classification is in such a stage of growth).

Yeah, it seems the updates are quite frequent. It's not that there are new trails made all the time but the complete documentation of trails that have been there forever. Eventually, it will slow down as you near completion.
